Chris Smerald is a Fellow of both the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society. At AIG his role is in the global general insurance finance division, supporting reserving as claims actuary. Recent work involves stochastic reserving; signal vs noise diagnostics; structural driver analytics to explain and forecast trends; and business ownership of a machine learning individual claims reserving project. His interests in social complexity theory have helped him conclude that actuarial demands and best practice have become so complex that new models for technical work are needed.
